I was excited and thrilled to go to the ports on our Eastern Caribbean cruise, but after reading a few articles about crime, I am very worried and not sure about exploring. My travel agent said she felt Bermuda was very safe and her and her husband rented scooters to explore the island.

And I am not sure anymore. I also read the story of Rebecca Middleton who was killed and sodomized in Bermuda in 1996. She was a canadien tourist. I am so freaked out!!

Our ports are: Bermuda, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and San Juan Puerto Rico. Are these places safe? Which are more worriesome than others? Please help I am worried about my vacation

I’m supposed to be finding a place to go for vacation next winter break for my family of 5 + 1(oldest brother’s girlfriend). We have some places, but for example our spot in Mexico is being run over by the cartels and we’ve already been to Hawaii, so naturally we thought of the Caribbean. My family is 2 teenagers (18 + 14 both male), 1 young adult (20, male) and then our dad and mom. They hate being tourists and don’t like to stay at hotels. Everyone in our family surfs (very well i might add) and we don’t want it to be too expensive. What would be the best island in the Carribean for our family to visit?

Okay..I want to know…

Is Jamaica the only island in the caribbean that is "filthy and poor" to tourists.

I’ve been to Jamaica and found the island to be very beautiful from the resort to actual country itself..it’s an artpiece to me. Plus it’s BOTH relaxed and party attitutude..you can choose whichever you want to be..

But, tourist keep saying Jamaica is so filthy..as if it’s the most poor and filthy island of the entire caribbean..

People talk like they know Jamaica like the back of there hands..saying "Jamaica is messed up by poverty and drug trade.." they say that as if they read that out of a book instead of having there own experience..

It seems they have been scared to venture out…by hear-say..

I mean Jamaica is a THIRD world country..what do people expect?

What i want to know is…Is Jamaica the most filthy and poor island of all the caribbean b/c I don’t hear anything about any other island…?

My husband likes to surf. We were considering St. Croix, The Buccaneer or Tortola, Long Bay Beach Resort & Villas, but I am very sceptical about the accommodations. I recently stayed at The Prisio Del Mar in Riveria Maya and loved it, but no surfing for him there. I also liked Somerset at Grace Bay on Turks & Caicos, but no surfing there either. Does anyone know of any resorts on that level in any other Caribbean islands that have good surf? I saw some nice resorts in Nassau and lots to do there, but have heard it’s very dirty and crime ridden, lots of violent crimes against tourists… Any suggestions???

I am planning to open a company online to cater to tourists to plan their itinerary of what they can do in the caribbean. for example if you like to go para-sailing on your vacation I can connect to that person. Or your family want to take a vacation to an island I can set up family activities to be done.

I’m going on vacation with a friend and her family this summer, and they’re having problems planning and deciding where to go, so I told them i’d try to help out. None of us have ever been to the caribbean before. They want to stay at an all inclusive resort, somewhere that has a lot to do for adults (my friend and i are 19 and 18, then her parents…parents are okay with drinking/partying, and we love adventuring and being active) but not crazy overpopulated with tourists. we want to be around people but not be suffocated ha. Budget isn’t a super big issue but it’d be cool to save some money on the trip as well. I think the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, or Turks and Caicos might be cool, but I have no idea. any input on good resorts, good places to look online for package deals/airfare deals, things to do while there, and anything else noteworthy would be great.

I have heard Cuba has beutiful beaches are their good resorts like the other Caribbean islands or is the region impovrished. Do Cuban’s like tourists or is it considered unsafe to be an American in Cuba. If we can go where should we visit for great beaches and a good times?
