I am a US Citizen looking to move to the Caribbean and I am looking for suggestions on which island I should move to.

Please do not turn this question into a debate about qualifying for citizenship, immigration and work authorization. I can obtain a legal residency status in almost any nation.

Which island would be of most benefit based on my expectations.

- white sandy beaches with no shortage of gorgeous water

- limited rocky coastlines and limited elevations

- no bigger than jamica or st. croix in land mass

- does not have a fierce hatred for the United States

- mostly English speaking

- island where a skilled american with legal rights to work can find a job

Here is what I am weighing..

- Jamaica

- St. Croix USVI

- British Virgin Islands

- Barbados

- St. Lucia

- Martinique

- Belize (central america)

- Aruba

- Cayman Islands (harder for me to get into)

My girlfriends are planning a trip to St. Lucia for wives only. It is 3 of them and possibly me. They want 4 so we can do 2 per room. These other women’s husbands go on hunting and golf excursions throughout the year on weekends. To reciprocate, their husbands give them an all wives week vacation once per year. I have a problem, my husband won’t let me go. He goes nowhere during the year. He has no hobbies so he does not feel the need to reciprocate. This is a problem for me. These women are my best friends and this means a lot to me but my husband is insecure. How do i convince him to let me go. I have tried talking to him and my friends tried talking to him and he will not budge. Last night he told me that I would be opening myself up to cheat because young men are hitting on 40 something year old women these days because of the Cougar phenomenon. I turned my back on him in bed and have not spoken to him yet. I am becoming bitter and he is pushing me away. I have no desire for sex with young men on an island. I think he watches too many movies.

How do I get through to an insecure and controlling husband like this? I know one thing, if he makes this difficult on me, he is driving a huge wedge between us.
Some of you writing that i am the problem and I am driving the wedge are obviously insecure yourselves. What is up with so many insecure people?

My fiance and I are trying to plan our honeymoon (Scheduled for late november) and we can’t decide if we want to go to St. Lucia in the virgin islands, or travel around italy. We’re both seasoned travelers but have not been to either place. We know the trips are two completely different experiences- one involves exploring the rainforest and sitting on the beach, while the other involves sightseeing and experiencing a different culture. We like both ideas equally, although we worry the sightseeing in italy will be stressful. We once traveled around japan and felt like we needed a vacation after our vacation- there was just so much to do/see! Anyway, if you have been to either place, let me know what you think! Thanks!

If you had a once in a lifetime opportunity to live for one year or possibly more, in another country/continent and/or island where would it be and why?? How would you spend your time there and what would you most like to gain from the experience??

At one of my book club meetings, this questions was asked and these were the top 5 places in this order;

Anywhere in the Caribbean to explore the culture and food
Nigeria or Ethiopia
China
Israel
France

I chose the Caribbean because I have always felt connected to its culture. I would love to live there, possibly teach in the villages, take cooking classes, and learn as much as I can about its history and the people. Of the caribbean islands, my top 3 are St Martin, Anguilla, or St Lucia. Traveling has always been a passion of mine, and one that I wish I could indulge in more, and plan to when I retire, but its one thing to vacation at a destination and another to experience the destination. I appreciate your replies..

Thanks Big B, thats why I moved the question to the travel section. The idea of living someplace foreign has always intrigued me. It has the potential to be one of the best educational opportunities one could experience. Many people do not think about travel from that perspective.

I’m very confused. I’m planning a vacation in the caribbean, but the more I search and the more I find places where I’d like to go, so, it’s hard to decide.
I’d like a place to relax but also a place where there is something to do/see other than laying down on the beach.
So far I’m looking at: Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Lucia.
Which one of these (or more suggestions)?

My boyfriend and I (we are both 20) want to book a hotel in one of these places for a mini-vacation in June: Bahamas, St. Lucia, U.S. Virgin Islands, Cancun… Some of the hotels say you need to be 21 to register (does this mean book the room??). Are there any hotels that you can be over 18 and book the room?

My parents have decided that instead of christmas gifts we are going to go on a vacation in January. we have only been to Florida, so we don’t have much experience researching vacation destinations.

A Cruise is out of the question for my father. There is just the 3 of us, and I am over 21.

We are thinking, Bahamas… or maybe Barbados, St. Lucia… but are open to other suggestions.

Here are what we are looking for…
1) Going in January… dates are open, but we are looking for warm weather.
2) We will be flying out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada out of the Toronto Pearson International Airport
3) **All Inclusive (including booze and food) and entertainment, like clubs and shows
4) *** Hopefully a room that has at least a separate living area with a pull out couch as BOTH my parents snore, or a cheap seperate, 2nd room
5) atleast 4 stars
6) Lots to do, activities, sights to see, snorkeling, swiming with dolphens, horse back riding on the beach, waterfalls, shopping, things like that.

I’ll stop there as i dont want to limit your suggestions.
